How to come out to my parents by Vericuester

"nerve-wracking but worth it"

How I did it: Being in gender/women's studies and LGBT/Q studies classes really gave me the atmosphere to realize I could be free to be who I am and people wouldn't judge me as badly as I thought they would. I'd come out to my sister, roommates and most of my friends at school before I came out to my parents. I asked some friends how they came out and decided to just say it simply, and say over dinner "I'm attracted to men and women, and I love you". My mother took it better than I expected and I have a feeling my father just doesn't care what I do with my personal life. It's a relief to finally be out to my whole family.
