How to publish something in 2011

How I did it: I read lots of papers on the topic, read the papers those papers had referenced, and tried to bring all of the early research and modern research together in a way that was moderately interesting.
Lessons & tips: Take copious notes, ask for help and don't get upset when you are redlined.
