How to trace my family tree
How I did it: Help from relatives, Internet research. I gathered together all the notes my relatives had. I'm still gathering them. Building the family tree is an ongoing process. I'm constantly adding new resources. Today I have over 6000 people in my family tree.
Lessons & tips: You're in luck if there's a Mormon in your past (or present)...Mormons are very active genealogists. As a matter of fact, Mormon churces (not official temples) typically offer genealogy services that are free and open to the public. They have all the pay-websites available for free...and they don't harass you about joining their church. The one where I live has a separate door apart from the church where the public can come and go as they please to access the genealogy resources (an attendant is present).
Resources: The above, plus family tree maker...take the time to learn about GEDCOM files.
