How to sleep!
How I did it: I added this goal because I used to freak out when I thought I wasn't getting enough sleep. It would be 2 AM and I had to be at work at 8 AM and I would worry so much about not being able to sleep that I would never get any sleep and I would be extremely tired the next day.
Recently, I've taken the time to slow down and listen to what my body is telling me. When I feel tired, I go to sleep. When I don't feel tired, I don't try to force myself into going to sleep. I use the late night time to get things done that would otherwise gotten done the next day, that way if I AM tired after work, I can come home and sleep without worrying about homework or laundry.
I cut back on the caffeine, because you can't listen to what your body is telling you if you're pumped up on artificial stimulants.
What this has made me realize is that I don't need eight hours of sleep every night. I've actually been getting a lot less than eight hours every night, and napping most afternoons and I feel fine.
Lessons & tips: Quit stressing out about how much sleep you think you should be getting and just listen to your body. It may take a couple of days to get used to but it's a lot better than laying in bed, not being tired, and worrying about going to sleep.
Get some physical exercise in your day. Days when I work out, I get tired more easily than days when I just lounge around.
Resources: - Quitting caffeine
- Going to the gym
- Listening to your internal clock. Your body knows what it needs a lot more than any study or article.
