How to groom my dog
"Although it was very tough job, bonding with my dog made it an enjoyable experience."
How I did it: My dog lives in our backyard, and he's not allowed indoors. Therefore, his hygiene level was never very high. Nevertheless, I noticed long dirty dreadlocks in his fur, and he also kind of started to stink whenever he was wet. He wasn't properly groomed in about a year! After realizing this, I decided to something immediately, before the summer went away.
1. Cutting. Good old scissors. It took me two hours to remove unnecessary fur and mats, since he's very playful and can't stay put for longer than 2 minutes.
2. Bathing. Bought some shampoo, filled the biggest bowl I could find with water... Bathing was the hardest. My dog hates water, I could barely wet his fur. So I just mixed some shampoo with water, and poured that water on him (still took me half an hour). I did some rubbing, but there was barely any foam. If I had put shampoo directly on him, he wouldn't let me rinse it. So a little more clean water poured, and we were finished. He avoided a towel even more than water, so I let him dry in the sun.
3. Brushing. I don't have the right brush for him, so I used the best I could find. There were still tangled areas, but overall - he looked incomparably better than before.
Lessons & tips:
- Seek help if your dog is hard to hold still.
- If you're doing it outside, choose a day with good weather.
- Make sure you have the right equipment.
- Also, take care of your dog's nails and ears.
