How I did it:

The new Timeline is awesome! It is like one big online scrapbook magazine of your life, from the time you were born to current. 

I followed the instructions from http://mashable.com/2011/09/22/how-to-facebook-timeline/#27125Step-1 . 

Lessons & tips: Even if you have the new Timeline, your friends won't be able to view your profile in Timeline unless they have updated their facebook as well. But it's worth it to have it yourself!
