How to go to burning man
"My jaw didn't just drop. My face melted. My head exploded. I had literally died and went to heaven."
How I did it:
I have always wanted to go to Burning Man for years, and when I mentioned the idea of going to my friend Codi at work back in April of 2011, she instantly agreed and got super excited. From that day forward it was decided- we were going to Burning Man 2011!!! She knew people from where we live (Chicago) who have been going for years, so it was set up for us to camp with them. I worked extra hard for months, put money aside to buy the tickets, went shopping in increments for all the camping materials and supplies, and did a separate shopping trip for all the clothes. I ordered a lot of the light-up, blinky stuff, LEDs, El Wire, "freak stuff", Gas Masks, goggles, etc. online (eBay). My ticket was $320, my flight was $900, and I hitch hiked to and from the event itself. I spent about $500 in supplies.
Lessons & tips: Plan ahead. Bring more than enough supplies. Don't forget your ticket at home! and of course the psychedellic drugs are a must. Bring little trinkets to gift to others. Expect the unexpected. Don't forget to bring lots of sunscreen & water for the day and warm & fuzzy things for at night because it DOES get down to 40 degrees!
