"I read a lot of memoirs."
How I did it: I think I actually finished about six weeks ago, but I was forgetting to keep track. Mostly, this was possible because, I deployed to Iraq, and that gives you a shocking amount of time to sit around and read. I don't think most people realize how much of war is sitting around and waiting, especially when you're as far from actual combat as I've been.
Lessons & tips:
- Start with a list of about 15 books. It'll be pretty easy to find the rest through the year.
- Pick books of varying length. It was fun to read Lonesome Dove, but I couldn't have handled another book of anywhere near that length for another month. On the flip side, I felt like I was cheating when I read two short books in a row.
- It's not cheating if you read a book you've read before.
