How I did it: I've always wanted to visit Salt Lake City for some reason. I think I just liked the sound of it or the idea of some great big salty lake. I had the opportunity to go there for a yoga conference in October. I had a few days before the conference to do some sightseeing. I went on a few local city tours and visited places like Temple Square, the Great Salt Lake, and the Kennecott Copper Mine. I met a lot of nice people, discovered what a sea monkey is (love them!), and learned all about the history of the city and the Mormon religion. I absolutely fell in love with the mountains. Walking outside and seeing snow topped mountains everywhere just makes me feel blessed and so much more alive. Not to mention, the mountain air was fantastic. My hair wasn't even remotely frizzy there, even on rainy days, which I found absolutely amazing!
Lessons & tips: If you're female and traveling alone, I think it's best to stay at a hotel right on or very near Main Street in the city center. I'm told that this is a safe city, but I stayed at a hotel about 3 blocks away, near Pioneer Park, and I didn't feel safe walking around the streets by myself. Men seem to out number women in this city, and there are bums and sketchy men in abundance. I was approached by 2 teenagers twice in broad daylight, harassing me for money and I felt scared and wound up renting a car.
