How I did it: This is how not to do it.
I registered for my CMP (credential maintenance program) at GBCI.org in January 2010. I had two years to complete 30 CEUs to keep my credential. I then proceeded to forget about it. In the summer I was reminded to make sure I had registered and when I went to the website I realized I had less than six months to complete all of those credits. I then figured out how to report and went back and reviewed my AIA transcript and reported the appropriate CEUs to GBCI (fortunately many of the CEUs overlap between the three organizations for which I must maintain CEUs. After doing that I still had about 24 hours to complete. I was able to apply 4 hours of my volunteer design review commission time toward the total.
I searched online for free CEU opportunities and found lots of free on demand classes. I then made it a priority to start the CEU process, reading 2-4 courses a week until I whittled it down to what I needed.
I finished yesterday and applied for renewal.
Lessons & tips: Don't wait until the last minute to do this. Stay on top of it during the two year period. Take advantage of free CEUs and when attending a conference, make sure that some of the seminars attended have sustainable concepts so that you can use them for credentialing.
