How I did it: This is one of the most difficult habits I've had and it is mostly because of school. No matter how early I do my class work, I end up pulling long nights on the computer to get it done since work also inhibited my time. I decided that instead of going online and check out different sites, to just pick up a book and read. If I read all of my books, then put on some classical music and/or dance. I started working out during my 10 minute breaks. I called my mom. I also searched anything I wanted for like an hour, then closed the window and quickly erased my history so as not to look into it. I was one of those people that easily had 100 tabs open with one 100 different things. Some times in the 180s. I just had so much in my mind.
I also learned to jot down whatever I wanted to look for or learn. Then get a book about it. It eventually became habit and now, I don't stay up as late. Case in point: My average bedtime, counting time in the internet, was about 2am. Since I stopped, 11pm or 10.
Lessons & tips: Listen to some music on Itunes instead of going online. Sometimes listening to your old music helps comfort you.
If you do have to go on the internet, check out simplynoise. It is a noise generator that helps give you peace of mind. It helps control all of the jitter and disorder in my mind.
Get yourself to sleep. Listen to some pink noise, classical music, which are great contrasts to the hysteric sound in today's music. Listen to some "slow jams' if you have to. I've found this helps me and my girlfriends fall to sleep like nothing else. Most of the songs are very romantic, thus put you in the mood to dream, which translates into sleepytime!
