How to stop going after Ms. Unavailable(s)
How I did it: As soon as I find myself thinking I'd be just fine with dating a girl who already has a boyfriend or girlfriend, I've learned that it's time to walk away. Ultimately, knowing not to go after Ms. Unavailable has come down to knowing and trusting myself.
Lessons & tips: Listen to the alarm bells that are clanging in the back of your head. We've all met that person we think we just have to have. While it's true that the universe will let you know when you've stumbled on something incredible, I assure you that relationships that are right for you will not leave you feeling like there's battery acid pumping through your bloodstream or crying yourself to sleep.
Resources: Natalie Lue at Baggage Reclaim is a relationship genius. This applies to straight dudes and The Gays, too. Obvious advice like "the more clues you have to collect before you take the hint, the less
of a relationship you have and the deeper you are into an unhealthy
situation" are just the beginning. Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" is also therapeutic.
