How to improve my posture

How I did it:
I'm very tall (about 6"4) and I always used to be slumped over.
I realised that people see you as less confident and less in control if you are like this. Hell, I even think it encouraged people to take advangtage of me and bully me.
Even more profoundly, body language and mood have a feedback loop.
I learned this through reading Barbara and Allan Pease's Essential Book of Body Language. Not only is your inner state expressed through your posture, but your posture affects the way you feel.
If you appear confident and open and in control, you start to feel that way. People treat you as if you are confident, and this makes you even more so. It's a positive feedback loop.
SUGGESTIONS
Number one - if you are anything like I was, your muscles have become atrophied.
Do exercises to build up your trapezius and rhomboid muscles in your back. These include shrugs with dumb-bells and seated row exercises. I also think that focusing on your latissimus dorsi, with a lateral-pulldown exercise helps too.
Whenever you're working out, make sure you stretch and warm up, and that you're eating well (protein and carbs) and that you're staying hydrated.
Number two - it sounds simple. It sounds so simple that it wouldn't work. But it does. Stand up straight.
Do it. Fix your posture.
Every time you feel yourself slumping, every time you see yourself slumped over in a mirror, fix it. It's a matter of self-discipline.
It's difficult at first, particularly if your muscles are weak. But the results are well worth it.
I think it's no exaggeration to say that this will make you feel more confident, and be more attractive to others.
