How to meditate often
"It's not something you do as much as it is something you don't. "
How I did it: I meditate when I get the idea, when I feel too jumbled, confused, unmotivated, etc.
It's just something that you have to do when you think of it. Right away, don't let the thought leave your mind. You won't want to do it again for a while so take advantage of where your mind wants you to be.
Lessons & tips:
Sit down, on the floor, on a pillow, or in a chair. I recommend using a candle, maybe some sage or incense.
Sit down, hold your hands together or on your knees/thighs, leave your eyes slightly open and stare at the candle.
Count your breath. Let yourself breathe naturally, and count each breath until you reach 10, then go back to one.
As thoughts come into your head, let them go, come back to counting your breath. If you overcount, go back to 1.
Meditate for 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes. Good luck doing more than that!
Resources: Find a Zen center in your area and join a sangha, meet with them weekly.
