"Not as hard as I thought"
How I did it: I really thought breastfeeding would be incredibly difficult. I've heard so many stories of mom's bawling their eyes out with the baby crying and no one getting any peace or rest.
My little preemie had both a tongue tie and a really bad case of jaundice. The tongue tie meant he had problems latching and the jaundice meant it was imperative to get more food in him through supplementation.
We supplemented with donor breast milk for the first 10 days and then switched to formula. I was able to provide about an ounce of breastmilk. I went to the doctor and the lactation consultant and finally to the breastfeeding clinic with doctors that specialize in breastfeeding.
We still supplement breastmilk with formula - and hey, it's better than nothing.
Lessons & tips: There is often lots of free help available if you want to breastfeed. Take advantage of all the help you can get
Not everyone can breastfeed and not everyone can provide enough milk, but do what you can and don't be too hard on yourself.
