How to keep a journal
How I did it: I read a lot. Gary Snyder, Han Shan, Siddhartha, Jack Kerouac. I let there writings sink in. I stopped writing in paragraphs. I stopped trying to grab all the details. I just exposed a moment here and there. A recipe. A drawing. A scent or color. Sometimes it was two pages long sometimes it was a sentence. I tried to write everyday but didn't beat myself up if i couldn't. It has become a beautiful record of adventures and connections.
Lessons & tips: Don't worry about how it comes out. If it doesn't make sense really who cares? It does to you and really that's who the book is for. I also got a thin book with blank, unlined pages. I kept the book thinner so i wouldn't get intimidated or overwhelmed. I get books unlined so I make my own shapes and lines. I gota book with an elastic band that went over the whole book so i could keep a pen attached.
Resources: Honesty in oneself. Pens, tape, a journal
