How to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day
"I feel SOOOOO good!"
How I did it: I made an effort to include at least one fruit and/or veggie with every meal and every snack. Since I eat three meals and two snacks in an average day, this made it pretty easy.
Lessons & tips: Stock up on fresh fruits and veggies at least once a week, if not more often.
Try new things (or new varieties of things you already love) to keep things interesting. For example, I've had all sorts of apples before, but I recently discovered the Pinata apple and fell in love - I ate them for a week!
Incorporate fruits and veggies into every meal, and make them the base of your snacks. Another apple example - I wanted one for a snack but it didn't feel satisfying enough on its own. So I measured out a serving of peanut butter and dipped the apples in that. The combination was delectable!
Keep FRESH fruit and veggie juices (my favorites are Odwalla 100% orange juice and 100% carrot juice) for a quick extra serving or two. Don't depend on juices (even 100% doesn't mean it has the same nutrients as a whole piece of fruit or vegetable) but use them as a tasty supplement.
