How I did it: The entire week before, I made sure I did a little bit towrads the party every day. I made sure new messes in my house didn't exist and I made a concious effort to not get mad at my family when things weren't done exactly my way.
I also asked for help, instead of demanding help from my family, so it was a more positive experience.
I had my daughter go to the store with a list instead of going myself and buying a whole lot more things that I didn't really need that wasn't on the list. So I spent less money, that always eases my stress.
And finally, whatever didn't get done, I just let it go.
It made for a much better day.
