How to own three cats
How I did it: We have originally only planned to have one or two of the cats when we moved. My daughter couldn't make up her mind if she was going to take Mischief which was her cat originally and Mischief's kitten Sutie with her when she moved or just the one. As it happened, she really couldn't afford to feed and care for a pet at this time so we thought of finding a home for one or both. My husband wanted the grey kitten which he called Smokey and I told him once our daughter announced she wasn't taking one, I preferred Mischief if we only took one cat. Mischief was very affectionate and litterbox trained and loved by the grandkids.
When we initially moved, we didn't take the cats right away. They had been staying outdoors and I put food and water out daily when I went by after work. We were settled enough in after 2 weeks and no closer to finding homes for any of them and my husband and I just happened to be at our old house at the same time and he suggested that it was time to move the cats to our new house. I was elated that we were going to move all three. We already had one pet carrier and borrowed another from a neighbor. We simply caught all three cats, put them into the pet carriers (2 in and the third in the other), placed the carriers in my car and away we went. I already had a litterbox set up for them. I set another litterbox up that night and have set up a third yesterday after buying more litter.
Lessons & tips: Caring for multiple cats is easy but there is the added cost of catfood and you will soon realise that more then one litterbox may be needed. This also means you will spend a little more time cleaning up after your cats. Having cats that are already acquainted with each other is always a plus in a multiple pet household. There really isn't any special care with more then one animal. In some cases, it can be easier because they can keep each other company while you are away.
Resources: Nothing special is needed other what you would need for a single cat household. Just more of it.
