Maybe…. Take some pills?
How I did it: I haven't really done this yet... I have tried and tried but I always have to much going on. At the same time I have been able to meditate more lately, so maybe that counts?
SalmonXGrilled what does that even mean?

:) thank you… I do try to take on to much. And you are right, it is easy if we don’t complicate it:)
Hope that you’d continue to experiment different ways of relaxing. Meditating more is good as long as you’re not feeling frustrated that you’re not doing well. After all, it is about living in the moment. No goals. Just be.

Yeah that’s how I ended up feeling, frustrated. I try, but I always think about all that’s going on. I stress easily and I can’t seem to let go of things, even just for the night. It’s starting to take a toll on my boyfriend :(
Yes, I feel that way too in the past. A meditation teacher once taught that it is important to do physical relaxation. Tense up each part of your body then let go. Check this out http://www.hypnos.co.uk/hypnomag/jacobson.htm It’s a method called Progressive Muscle relaxation.
Do note your goals. If you have a goal to be completely relax, it will actually backfire. Experiment and allow yourself to see which method works best.
When meditating, it would be a miracle if you can stop thinking and just relax immediately, Our mind will definitely think of a thousand things when we stop doing anything and focus within. Hence, it is more important to expect it and let it come and go. Just watch the thoughts, not react to it “Oh, why am I still thinking so much? Why can’t I just meditate properly?” All these will only worsen and end up feeling more irritated with yourself. Gently go back to noticing your breathing. The more you try to let go, the more you suppress or avoid those thoughts from coming, the worse. You give those thoughts your attention and end up obsessing about them. Know that it’s okay for the thoughts to come, let them come. The more you fight against it, the worse. Let it be. Let them come. No need to react. They’re just thoughts. Set aside a time to let yourself think of the thoughts intentionally every night. This will free you from them intruding on your life.
Let them come. Also, let negative feelings come. They will go off when you stop fighting them or avoiding them.
But, give yourself time.
Take care! I took a long time too to overcome this habit of mine :)
