How to henna my hair
How I did it: I used the Caca Marron from Lush. I wear a bob and have natural thick and dark brown hair. Due to the fact that I love Lush and try to avoid chemical products dying my hair with Henna was something I wanted to try out for a long time.
Although I was unsure whether my dark hair would absorb the Henna colour I tried it out with the goal of a dark-brown-reddish colour :)
After melting the Henna blocks and applying the mixture on my hair I put plastic wrap and a towel around my head and waited for ~6 hours until I washed out the Henna.
To me the smell of Henna is pretty nice and natural, but my brother complained about a "nasty, earthy" smell.
Well, after washing out the Henna, I let my hair air-dry and immediately noticed my hair was shinier and smoother than before!
Unfortunately my hair colour almost didn't change and I didn't receive the result I was aiming for.
Despite the failure in dying my hair reddish a natural product which makes your hair healthier is never a
bad choice!
By the way, you can also buy colourless Henna to just care for your
hair! :)
Lessons & tips:
- Think about which effect you want to achieve and be prepared that it may not work on dark hair!
- Make sure to cover everything with newspapers etc to avoid stains.
- Keep the Henna on your hair warm, by wrapping a towel over the plastic wrap.

Butterfly is thoroughly enjoying our new place!
Just wanted to say
thank you for the info-I’ve been curious to try henna, but I have dark brown hair as well, so wasn’t too sure how well it would work.
Henna dye
I’m on the same page as you and Butterfly—I’ve wanted to dye my hair with henna, but I have dark, almost black hair. It sounds like you got a little bit of a red highlight, though? After washing your hair, is it still shinier and smoother than before? Did the small color change stay?
Dear S1911 and Butterfly, I’m glad I could help you to decide on Henna dyeing! Nobody could tell me how the result might be so I wanted to share my experience :)
Right after the dyeing process I saw a little change in the lighter strands I have, (a medium brown), it seemed to me that those strands were tinted a little bit reddish.
Now it’s almost a week since I dyed my hair and I don’t see any change anymore. Either it washed out or I simply imagined the change, because all my friends told me they don’t see any colour change at all!
Nevertheless my hair is still definitely stronger and shinier than before.
I hope I could help you a little bit :)
