How to get a dog

Comments:

Holly is not doing so good on getting things done!

Adopt even if you want a purebred!

My husband and I were torn about getting a dog. I wanted to adopt and I loved border collies. He wanted to go to a breeder and he loved springer spaniels.

We started logging onto petfinder. It was like a dating site, every day we’d check to see if the perfect dog had come up. Finally we found Bela – a half border collie half sprnger mix. She has been a joy!

But I also realized how many purebred dogs end up in the adoption cycle, many are even puppies. So, adoption is best, but you might not have to chose between adoption and a purebred if you want!

Agree!

She’s adorable!

I’ve seen a lot of purebred dogs for adoption, too. There really are all kinds, but here poor retrievers are dominating when it comes to abandonment (I guess some people buy them because they are cute and fluffy but then they grow up and people get tired of them, so they just leave them on the street)... Actually, I’ve been checking all places for some abandoned poodles (since I still live with my parents and they want nothing but a poodle) but there has been none for years now.

I guess when I finally move out and when adoption time comes, that I’m gonna chose the most plain dog I can’t find (I don’t wanna say ugly since I don’t think a dog can be ugly), meaning the dog that has less chance to get adopted. Also, I think I would prefer to adopt a puppy, but that’s a lottery – what will it grow up to be, big, small, fluffy or not etc…
However, my fiancee wants a long haired dog, so we’ll yet see about that.
:D
