How to take singing lessons
How I did it: All throughout high school I wanted to take singing lessons. I loved Broadway music and loved singing more than anything, but it was not my "career path" and my parents didn't want to pay for it. Finally, my senior year I convinced my parents to let me take lessons if I payed for them.
I took singing lessons not because I wanted to be a singer, but because I wanted to feel better about how I sounded when I sang, because it was obvious that I was going to continue loving to sing no matter what career I was in. After just a few months my singing teacher suggested I try out for my school play. I was absolutely amazed when I got called back for the lead role. I had never thought of my voice as lead-role material, and the call back gave me a huge boost of confidence in myself. I didn't get the lead, but I did learn a lot of valuable techniques that have helped improve my singing voice. I'm even joining my college choir in the spring!
Lessons & tips:
- Don't give up if your parents are what are holding you back. Offer to pay or work for them!
- If you love to sing, but it's not the career you want to get into, don't let it stop you from taking lessons! It's still worth it!
