How I did it: I read "Getting Things Done" by David Allen. Essentially, he says that trying to keep a mental list of everything you need to do at any given second in your head is impossible. By externalizing your 'to-do list' you free your mind from having to remember all of those tasks so that you can use your energy to actually complete them.

I find Evernote to be tremendously helpful in accomplishing this task. It is free software that you can use on the web, on your computer, and on your smartphone. You create 'notebooks' and in them you put individual 'notes'. I have a notebook for things that need to be done around my apartment, things that need to be done at work, and a notebook for my weekly meal plan. If I think of something I need to do, I put it in the appropriate notebook. One thing that David Allen suggests is not just writing down what you need to do, but also to write down the NEXT actionable step you need to take to accomplish that action. If you see that you need to accomplish this huge task, you'll procrastinate. If the next actionable step is something like sending an email to get more information, or doing a load of laundry to start getting your house clean, it doesn't seem too bad.

I'm marking this goal as completed because I've been using Evernote to track everything for a while now and this is the FIRST weekend I've had in a LONG time where absolutely nothing is on my to-do list. It's my done list. :D

Lessons & tips: You can use Evernote for so many things. You can type your notes in it for school and have them with you where ever you go. You can take a picture of a business card and save it in a note. My favorite feature is an optional add on for Firefox or Chrome called "WebClipper". You can clip things you find and save the in notes. I clip all the good recipes I find and them compile them into my weekly meal plan.

The only way this works is as SOON as something comes to mind, put it in the appropriate notebook. Don't let it float out of your mind to be revisited later. Know that it's taken care of and you'll get to it. Also, check your evernote on a daily basis.
