How to improve my balance
How I did it: This one was hard. It took a lot of work and I'm very pleased with myself now that I'm done.
I tried a lot of different things, like yoga, standing on one leg and moving around and then switching legs and trying that, walking along things I had to balance on, Tai Chi, and so on.
In the end, here's what worked: I went to the Mayo Clinic's web site and downloaded a set of five balance-improving exercises that took about fifteen minutes a day to do. I did them diligently for about three and a half weeks and noticed a major improvement, but then I broke my foot hiking and had to stop for a while. Once my foot healed, I got back to them. Now, I've done them thirty days and my balance is much, much better. I can even do the exercises slowly and carefully while barefoot without falling once. I used to need to wear shoes and would fall constantly while doing them.
I'm just very pleased with myself.
Lessons & tips: The Mayo Clinic web site has good balance exercises. You can download them and do them daily. They take a while, but they really work.
