How to donate blood by John Hostetter

How I did it: I was encouraged to go by a friend, who was also going in to donate.  We went in together, which helped calm my nerves a bit.  After asking lots of questions, and getting them all answered to my satisfaction, I decided to go for an R-2 donation (which is sort of a 2-unit donation).  

The whole process, including my litany of questions and filling out paperwork since this was my first donation and the fact that an R-2 donation takes longer took a but less than an hour.  I expect a normal donation visit can be done in 20ish minutes.  

Lessons & tips: Relax!  You dont have to look if you dont want to, ask for blankets or hot packs if you are cold, and talk to your phlebotomist if you have any concerns.
