How to quit drinking by onegirliknow

"Now's as good a day as any."

How I did it: I finally saw how crazy alcohol enabled my life to be.  It let me ignore my problems, and allowed me to create new ones without thinking about consequences.  I woke up one day, decided I couldn't do it anymore, and went to see a therapist.

Lessons & tips: Go to a meeting.  If the AA model doesn't work for you, there are other groups that work differently.  The biggest thing this did for me was showed me that it's not just your corner drunk that has a problem - it can be the person you most respect and least expect.  There are other people like me, who look like they have it together on the surface but hide what's really going on.

Resources: I totally support LifeRing meetings as an alternative to AA.  It's a non-religious group where the goal is to discuss how sobriety has effected you for the last week.  It's a great approach to the issue, and the discussion often led me to question my life philosophy.
