How to finish knitting my scarf
It made me
appreciate my OCD. 
"Knitting a scarf was a 'filler accomplishment': I accomplished something while filling in the paper-thin gaps of my nearly-air-tight schedule."
How I did it: Between homeschooling five kids, working on a novel, and being involved in various community activities, the ONLY way I could make progress was by setting a ridiculously realistic goal: six lines per day. Of course, I could do six lines, and once I got started, I usually did more. Before I knew it, I had ten feet of scarf. I could've kept going, but I wanted it to be exactly ten feet long.
Lessons & tips: Two things that totally worked for me:
- I took my work with me everywhere. I knitted in the van in the carpool line, during meetings, during movies, in clinic waiting rooms, etc.
- Six-line-per-day mini-goal. Easy, non-intimidating mini-goal to get me moving. Once I got started, I usually went beyond six lines.
