How I did it: I thought through the little things that would make his life better...the small things that he really could use and I got him those things. I also helped him rebuild his wardrobe after his weight loss - and put in some of the pieces he still needed to feel like he has going out and staying in clothes. We dined out. We had a couple of cakes. I had terrific candles for the cakes. I tried to rally his friends and family, but I just couldn't make that come together - so I gave him time to visit with them without me! Scheduling is tough often. All in all, it was a 10 day birthday extravaganza whereby I keep finding things - small things - that I had assembled for him. Oh - and I got him a starter painting set for him to express himself. He loved it!
Lessons & tips: Think through what makes someone happy and do that!
