How I did it: I began spending more time with my dad right after I started my list. I calendared a daily phone call with him, just like I would any other important appointment. I would receive a reminder about 5 minutes before I needed to call him, and it was my signal to wrap up what I was doing. It didn't have to last long. Usually most calls were five minutes or less but it was the connecting that was important.
Lessons & tips: I am so grateful I did. My dad died a short time later. I am so happy I made this little gesture in our relationship. I miss him, but I am so happy that I made him a bigger priority in my life.

I Dad passed away in April 2008 and I had a great relationship with him throughout my life. When we received his cancer diagnosis I made it a point of going to doctor’s appts with him as well as calling him every day. Like you, I am so glad that we were connected right until the end.
