Okay well its sounds from your experiences that you did somethings right and some things not exactly wrong but too fast if that makes sense?
Things you did right would be in my opinion starting with a light brand of cigarette, a full flavour cigarette would have increased the sensations of nausea and likely the irritation to the throat.
A menthol brand would have decreased irritation further and perhaps improved the taste but that is a personal preference (and not my own one)
You also appear to have picked up how to inhale easily, which can be an issue for some people.
Things you may not have picked up quite right – I guess that most of these things can be put down to perhaps uncertain expectations of what the experience would be like but I would say that your issues with taste and not getting a “good feeling” but rather nausea are akin to what someone who has never had caffeine would get if they suddenly decided to chug back a double espresso.
Essentially the taste of smoking is an acquired one, its not like sucking on a candy cane where you can go mmmm sugary goodness pretty much immediately, but more like coffee, or beer where your first tastes are more likely to be yuck people drink that stuff?
Additionally the good feelings are always that immediate such that it is rather easy when starting smoking to assume that you’re not doing it right or inhaling enough, and then get to a stage were you’ve had more than your tolerance limits of nicotine – which when you first try smoking are going to be rather low.
When you first try a cigarette I wouldn’t expect people to be able to smoke and inhale a whole cigarette for a while, as you need to build up a tolerance for nicotine, acquire the taste and gain a tolerance for smoke so that its doesn’t irritate your throat.
The way to go about that is to take smaller puffs, and to not inhale them all, and inhale less often – and treat the exercise as more getting used to the taste and holding a cigarette and so forth. Inhaling less will then mean you don’t get nausea but get that good feeling of enhanced relaxation and a kind of tingly glowy type feeling all over. If you start to feel that immediately stop or slow right down your inhales – as continuing will start to push you over that edge into nausea.
Alternately you can decide to smoke part of the cigarette somewhat slowly get to that feeling and stop smoking and save the rest of the cigarette for later.
Then if you wished to continue you could build up your tolerance and acquire the taste by slowly increasing how many actual inhales you had. The other thing to mention is that such effects are additive, in that if you tried early one day if you just merely waited for any effects to wear off and then had another go you’d get back and past that point quicker – thus remember to have good breaks between attempts.
So yeah I would encourage you to try again if you want to “get it right” but equally you haven’t done everything wrong and it is just a learning curve and acquiring the taste for it. Equally you’re highly unlikely to get addicted by just trying it once or twice or even smoking a couple of times a week – but instead from smoking regularly a few times each day.
Hope that helps
Leangel91 is in loooove ^^
That did help, actually -
And you’re right about the doing things too fast thing – I remember it was pretty much over in like 2 minutes and I’ve seen people make theirs last for a hell of a lot longer =p
The worst thing about it for me was the lingering taste – but in response to your comment, I don’t like coffee or beer, so, kudos XD
Thank you for the suggestions.
I’ll probably try again soon =)

Glad to be of assistance :-)
And I know from experience that its really easy to for lack of a better phrase “try too hard” to smoke “properly” from the get go, when that’s really the last thing you should be doing.
The other one to do is think that it tastes odd and thus try to finish quickly without wasting the cigarette.
Basically it sounds like your technique is fine, your not coughing or anything like that so you’re being pretty sensible with the size of your inhales etc. its just that you’re smoking too much and too quickly running before you can walk so to speak.
The taste is something you get used to fairly quickly, not like after one or two but if you had one every day or so for maybe a week, it won’t be something you dislike anymore.
The only other suggestion on that would be to try menthols instead which are cooler and add a kinda minty taste to it – some people like that some people don’t (I went through a phase where I enjoyed that flavour)
Best of luck with your next attempt, and if you want to experience it properly try it a few times and then the taste thing won’t be an issue
Well done RRedfearn!
Wow I wish I had your powers of persuasion in keeping girls smoking. So many beautiful young women quit right after starting. it’s so sad. It’s depriving them from having such a carefree, sexy existence too. A lot of them think that boys don’t like it. No matter what the boys say, they all really like it. Even the ones that complain when you light up realise that its just something hot girls do, like take ages getting ready to go out, they secretly like it and they’d miss it.
Smoking if done for a limited time will not give you any respiratory ailments. A girl should start experimenting at 12/13, perhaps start smoking regularly at 15/16 and be on at least 20 cigarettes a day by 18. She should ideally keep below 40 cigarettes a day and then quit at a max of about 35 years old. You get roughly 20 years of 40-a-day smoking without any respiratory problems. Teeth yellowing will only occur if you don’t have good dental hygiene and skin aging will not kick in until after 35 – moisturizing regularly throughout your smoking career and beyond will prevent skin aging.
The celebs who seem ‘worn out’ young, like Lindsay Lohan, etc, appear so because of other elements aside from smoking, namely alcohol and amphetamine-based drugs, not smoking tobacco and/or marijuana.
Smoking Cigars do no damage whatsoever. Unlike cigarettes you don’t inhale.
Smoking Marijuana (without tobacco) causes no damage whatsoever. It is a wonderful recreational drug and causes no problems whatsoever. If people used marijuana instead of the greatest killer, alcohol, the world would be a better place.
Just thought I’d give you all the facts here.
A sexy healthy looking girl could easily be smoking 20 a day with zero consequences so you’d never know. And it would in no way affect her exercise regime.
Over a quarter of the female population of America has smoked at some point in their lives. That’s 1 in 4. Typically the ones who don’t have an inert fear that any smoking whatsoever will damage them. They have no sense of confident rebellion and therefore they become homely wallflowers. Smoking gives girls the chance to feel grown up and independent and its something that should not be discouraged in early teens upwards. Why do you think pretty much every actress smokes? As you can see from sites such as smokingsides, you’ll see that a far greater amount than a quarter of actresses smoke. This is because its only the confident people who become actresses.
The world blames cigarettes for causing lung cancer. They can, over a time greater than 20 years smoking, and often do, but what people fail to realise is that lung cancer is one of many cancers, caused by a great many things.
Did you know for example, that merely living in New York city is the equivalent of having 10 cigarettes a day. If you think smoking is such a risk, then you’d better not live in a big city then. Move today. Get yourself into the countryside because you may as well be smoking.
Smoking in girls is an important social ritual that has allowed many young teenage girls to ‘cross over’ after being overlooked in terms of popularity. Popular girls will realise that this girl who now smokes has accepted her sexuality and independence, and has suddenly become a lot more interesting. It’s up there with sharing menstruation stories and talking about boys. It’s the ‘loser’ demographic who don’t smoke, not the winners.
Becuase of this, parents with daughters who have not taken up the habit by 16, should perhaps intervene and buy their daughter their first pack of smokes. If you prefer not to make this direct, you might want to leave them in her room, along with a note saying “because you should be free”. If your a parent who still smokes, perhaps be smoking when your daughter comes home and offer her one. If she refuses, try to make it seem like it’s something she’d have a lot of fun with. Tell her, too, that it will make her be more popular. She’ll thank you for it.
Marijuana is a fantastic recreational drug, which has the misfortune to be labelled alongside more serious drugs. Contrary to what the media would have you believer, marijuana has a great many beneficial properties, and absolutely no negative ones. Smoking of marijuana at any age upward of 16 years old should be actively encouraged, especially amongst teenage girls who don’t smoke regular cigarettes.
No-one wants a ‘good girl’ image. It’s a negative. Shows like Ugly Betty depict the good girl as basically a loser. Smoke and be sexy.
So many people do, and they look incredible with a cigarette in their mouth.
