How I did it: Well, I redesigned the basement of my family home to be an apartment and now my fiancé lives with me. We put wood floors everywhere and so I had to clean everything in my room! The huge wardrobe has been cleaned and now it's always clean, nothing on the floor and all. The only thing is the desk with some papers, but that even that is cleaned pretty often.
Lessons & tips: Live with somebody else! Even if the other person isn't a neat freak, you'll want to make the living area more pleasant for someone else.
Also, clean often! Don't let huge piles of clutter gather dust because that's just depressing.
