How I did it: a lot of self and group motivation and fatty food.

• keep a neat desk area set up (preferably with draws containing any piece of stationary you might ever need.
• have a positive studying environment
• make a study timetable and STICK TO IT.. Only laspe after a hard day of assessments or exams
• be friends with your teachers, even the ones you don't like (it doesn't matter what they say, a teacher is going to be more likely to see your work in a positive light if they like you than if they don't)
• try to have only motivated friends and encourage eachother
• make study groups, that's especially helpful when you get a useless teacher
• look to the future to find motivation, like making plans for what you are interested in, in terms of a career
• make short term goals that are easy to keep, e.g. make notes on 40 pages of my english text by tonight
• remind yourself that you only get one shot and that you're competing against an entire state
• be proud of yourself no matter what score you get because you know you've done your best

Lessons & tips: just keep telling yourself that if you don't then you'll end up in some crappy uni course while some other bitch is in your place.
