How to learn bookbinding
How I did it: I chose bookbinding for my semester project. With the help of my art teacher, who supplied a LOT of materials, and a visit to a crafts store, I was able to begin. I just used some helpful online tutorials (not hard to find) and gave it a shot, first with some scrap thread and paper so I wouldn't waste the good stuff. I tried a few different methods, and I've now got three completed journals to present in January at the event.
Lessons & tips: It's a matter of understanding the methods, the order in which to do things, and getting the right materials. Like anything, it basically boils down to your ability to figure things out and your motivation to learn. After that, it's not too tricky. Folding the paper for signatures got a little time-consuming, and I did get a bit lazy after a while. But it's definitely possible to create a quality piece of work.
Resources: HUGE stack of mapboard in the school closet, visit to a crafts store, online tutorials, tips from my teacher, basic ability to learn.
