How to try geocaching
How I did it: I went to geocaching.com and looked up caches in my area. We plugged the co-ordinates into the GPS, followed directions and the clues provided by the website, and found the cache. Well that is how it is supposed to go. Finding the cache is sometimes not so easy, and while we were able to use the GPS properly, we had some trouble locating the exact positions of caches, especially if they were hidden in the woods. It gets easier with experience, and sometimes you can get help via email from people who've found it already or the person who originally placed the cache. Some geocaches are multi-stage, some lead you to interesting places, some require math or solving skills. Each cache is rated in terms of difficulty and terrain quality on the website, so you can determine which ones would be best for you. Though we were often disappointed in the end because we failed to locate caches, we still enjoyed 'the hunt' and being outdoors. Geocaching is available all year round, but I hate the cold, so we'll be picking it up again next spring.
