"Not as hard as I thought it was going to be."
How I did it: It was damn critical already. My three closets were full with all sorts of clothes and I never had anything to wear, of course. Moreover, I was about to leave home for college. I was going to live in a dorm and space/transport was going to be a problem, so bringing all my clothes with me was out of question. Hell, even bringing HALF of all my clothes was next to impossible.
I had been reading all sorts of strategies over the Internet, Gala Darling's being the ultimate one - but I didn't have time for that. So instead of dividing my clothes in various piles and attempting to wear the un-wearable, I just divided them in three huuuge piles: these stay, these stay after they get sewn or repaired in any other way, these go. And the "these go" pile was, of course, the most huge. I would look at a piece of clothing and ask myself if I would like being found dead and wearing it. If the answer was no.. well, it was obvious.
Oh, and not only did I considerably make my moving out easier (in the end, I managed to squeeze all my autumn-winter-spring clothes (plus all of my t-shirts) into one single rather small closet), but I also made some kids happy by donating the clothes that were in wearable condition to one of my mom's employee's children (there are six of them and you can imagine their material situation is not exactly peachy keen).
