How to hitchhike

How I did it: This happened in Italy.
1. Myself and approximately 5 or 6 other people needed a ride home from a concert.
2. I don't know the rest of how I did this. We were standing on the street, looking at a long walk home. Buses had stopped running. Someone in the group must've stuck a thumb out or waved a car down, because the next thing I knew we were all piling into the car of a random man.
3. The man drove us to a spot semi-central to each of our homes. I then thanked him, exited the vehicle, and walked home with a roommate.
Lessons & tips: Do this with a large posse, so that you can overwhelm potential attackers.
