How to master cleanse
How I did it: it's not necessary, but it sure helps to have a cleansing buddy. the first time it was my two of my roommates, the second time it was a coworker. you can make bets or drastic consequences for quitting, it makes it fun and more motivating.
DO NOT DO THIS TO LOSE WEIGHT. this is a mental exercise - it's one way of proving to yourself that you can accomplish something that requires a whole lot of discipline. it's also a good way to transition to a healthier lifestyle. once you complete the cleanse, you feel less inclined to pollute your body. unfortunately, once you do - it's usually all downhill from there and you'll be wanting to do another cleanse!
Lessons & tips:
- snag a cleansing buddy or buddies (even better)
- try to arrange the cleanse at a time where nothing is going on - birthdays, concerts/shows, parties, etc.
- prepare mentally a week before - consider it like jumping off a cliff, you have to build the courage to do it and once you jump, you're committed!
- use the recipe and regime but screw the book - it's a little over the top. develop your own philosophy on why you're doing this (but don't adopt the weight loss excuse!) during the mental prep phase - it will make it much easier to keep going...especially when you're about ready to gag down that morning saltwater
- use redmond realsalt - nothing makes this easy, but this tastes a little more "brothy" if you will.
- my roommates work for an organic grocery delivery service so we split the cost of a case of lemons
- get an electric citrus juicer - settle for nothing less!
- freeze 2tb of lemon juice in ice trays for the future (cos if you buy a case of lemons you're gonna have TONS even after a split) and store them in ziploc freezer bags
- get a huge water bottle and make friends with it
- try to eat light the day before you start and don't go binging like most are wont to do
- try to start on the weekend or whatever day off you have - that way there's no surprises on how your body will be getting rid of that saltwater
- share the pain - read others accounts on 43things
- you might want to be discreet about what you're doing because lots of people (coworkers usually) will do their best to replace all the crap you're eliminating with negative comments because of their ignorance
- speaking of ignorance - i know i said screw the book, but research this well - know the good and bad of it. there's tons of resources on the internet pro and cons, consider them all
- your tolerance for alcohol WILL change - we're talking cheap date!
