How I did it: Instead of calling people on the phone or sending an e-mail, I sent letters. Yeah, it takes longer, but having a handwritten letter is incomparably better than some digital words. And whenever I ran out of people to send letters to, I would just write a random one to someone in the phone book and pretend like we were old friends.

Your idea about writing to someone random out of a phone book is just like that book “The Perks of being a Wallflower”. I don’t know if you’ve read it. That’s what the main character does all the time :)
