How to take a roadtrip cross country
How I did it: Parents & I took a month off from school. We hopped in the car and started driving east. Since it was autumn, traditionally one of the lesser busy vacation times, we didn't usually make reservations ahead of time; we just stopped when we were tired. We drove over all of New England, the mid-Atlanetic seaboard, most of the northern mid-west and drove through the Mountain region twice (to and from California). We saw many of the most famous monuments and memorials, and occasionally we stopped to see "little known" attractions.
Lessons & tips: Make sure you have enough money to last you the trip--nothing sucks more than being four thousand miles from home with no money! And always keep an eye on your gas. Munchies in the car also keep you from getting too hungry at the end of the day.
