It’s really between the sponsor and sponsee whether sharing religious ideals or calling every day is important. for you, it seems to be, but every sponsorship relationship is different.
congratulations! becoming a sponsor is an amazing opportunity.
How I did it: after a year of my sobriety i earned the right to be a sponsor. to be a sponsor to another addict/alcoholic is a very difficult task but one that is rewarding as well. it gives you a big innitiative to stay clean and sober when you know someone is counting on you for your experience, strength, and hope to guide them on their journey to recovery. i would reccomend this highly to anyone who has over a year clean and sober and feels they are ready to help someone else and better themselves at the same time.
Lessons & tips: be careful who you sponsor. when someone asks you to be their sponsor or when you offer your services to another, be sure you both share similar if not the same religious ideals, ideals about staying clean and sober, and ideals on basic moral and spiritual principales. make sure you stress to them that they must do WHATEVER IT TAKES to stay clean and sober and do the stepwork (12 steps) that you will work with them and MAKE SURE they call you everyday to check in.
