How I did it: I took three modules in my university. I can't say I can speak or write it fluently (at all), I'm at most past the beginner level, but I can express myself at the bare minimum, ask for directions, order in a restaurant and go to the doctor's without having to constantly refer to a phrasebook.

I will continue to learn it, because it empowers me to know a third language.

Lessons & tips: Keep reading, watch German movies and listen to Deutsche-Welle. 

Attending language classes at the Goethe Institut or have a German-speaking friend teach you will make you learn so much faster!

Resources: Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur help too, but nothing beats having a real person teaching you!
