"amazing, life-changing, focusing, monumental..."
How I did it: My store manager was during the Daniel fast and I was trying to do something to jump start a lifestyle change within myself... Well, I decided to join her fast with her and do some research about what I was getting myself into. It turns out that the Daniel fast is a vegan fast that is even more strict. No processed foods, no chemicals, no white anything (sugar, rice, pasta), no sweeteners, no coffee, tea or many other things. You can eat as many nuts, vegetables, whole grains, and as much fruit as you want. Also 100% juices but preferably water.
Well, I am coming on the last day tomorrow and I can not believe all that God has done in these 21 days. I received release from a relationship, more clarification on my purpose, the courage to transfer schools, the courage to separate from my circle, and a new outlook on food. (You would be shocked to find out what foods have sugar in them... tomatoes, vegetable soup...
I started this fast with one goal in mind and I am ending this fast with my mind on my goals. I thought I just wanted to be a professor but now I am thinking about becoming provost, or another university cabinet officer.
And the fifteen pounds I lost did not hurt much either. lol...
So this is where I am, and this is what I have done...
Lessons & tips:
- If you go to a restaurant, ask the server what is in the food. It's okay, you are paying for it...
- Pray, pray, and pray... fasting without praying is pointless...
- Cook at home, it makes it simpler to know what the ingredients are... and it is cheaper...
- Partner up with someone, I didn't but it would be a good idea...
- Make healthy snacks... (my favorite is peanuts and raisins... a poor man's peanut butter and jelly sandwich)... and popcorn, Orville Redenbacher has natural popcorn in a simply salt variety which tastes really good...
- Buy a big water bottle, they now sell 1.5 liter bottles... that equals to about 48 ounces... so two of those satisfy more than the daily suggestion for water intake...
Resources:
- Orville Redenbacher
- Walmart Party peanuts... bigger than average nuts and less salty than Publix brand
- Publix fruit bowls, they are only 3.00
- Frozen vegetables...
- Soy sauce mixed with water to flavor foods and brown rice
- Uncle Ben's brown rice, same cooking time as white rice
- Sun-maid raisins
- Google: Daniel fast and a website will come up with recipes and faqs and suggestions...
