How to spend more time with family
How I did it: Step 1: Put the keyboard down.
Step 2: Ask son if he did his homework.
Step 3: Ignore what he says and get his backpack.
Step 4: Repeat every day
I don't shame him, he gets upset easily, I just focus on what he can't do. I think the serenity prayer works well. I tell him not to worry about what he can't change. His teacher forgot something, fine. Lets focus on what he can do, like his study words, etc.
Oh, and take away the XBOX. And get up early and eat breakfast with him. He makes the bacon and I make the eggs, No TV. We sit we stare at each other and talk about Nazis and how their heads explode in the new level of Call of Duty where they are zombies and cool stuff like that.
Lessons & tips: Figure out what's important. Don't follow your gut this time. Your gut tells you to get on face book and try to meet new people, preferably girls, or chat on groups.
Kid time is hard, its brutal, its rewarding, but its not about me, its about my children, my sister, my parents.
Resources: I'd like to thank Microsoft, for showing me how little they know about childcare and that XBOX is not a qualified babysitter. Thanks, Bill.
Teachers, for calling and bugging me to get his grades up.
