How I did it: Initially I studied French in high school. After graduating university I took courses at the Alliance Francaise. Slowly read Harry Potter and Tin Tin in French.

Also I started listening to French bands (see suggestions below) gradually I began to understand more of what they were saying.

When speaking a foreign language - just act - pretend that you're actually French - make hand gestures and copy body language. Your accent will sound better!
