I gave up TV and you wouldnt believe how much more time I had
How I did it: I realized that it was too easy to get pulled into that mindless vacuum of endless watching. Part of it was a cost saving measure. I needed cable in my area to get anything more than one snowy channel. Even that went away a couple of months ago. But I also needed to get out and about. Not having a TV to entertain me forced me to read more, go out more....Suddenly there was so much more time for other things. It helped me with my other goals. A win-win situation.
Lessons & tips: Pull the plug. You CAN do it! Try it for a month. I can say that I miss the news sometimesc but I kept my internet connection so there are other ways to stay informed.
Give it a try. I can still watch the occasion show at friends or family's houses, but you find out pretty quickly that you won't miss it. I still watch movies on DVD.
Resources: Reading and staying up-to-date by using the Internet instead of relying on the TV. Make use of the public library.
