How I did it: Went to Costco, bought a drive, and plugged it in. I also have an off site hard drive at my parent's house with almost the same information.

I put the purchase on a credit card, but preserving important files has a higher priority than another $140 applied to my debt.

Lessons & tips: Find a cheap hard drive that has PLENTY of space and a popular brand
