its said that u have to take time but i didnt wait to long i waited 3-days per stretch and in 3 short weeks i went to a 9/16. it only realy depends on how fast your ears heal. so is it recomended to wait yes, but you dont have to unless u think that you are ready to go bigger
How to stretch my ears
How I did it: I stretched as big as 6 mm. I took it 1 mm at a time...and I looked quite foolish on many occasions with a taper sticking out half way out of my ear. The very first tapering (from normal ear lobe piercing to 1.5 mm)...that was the most painful for some reason. But after that, if you leave about a month and a half before moving up a size, it's not too uncomfortable. I must admit that I wasn't very good with the whole daily earlobe massages with vitamin E oil...but my ears are nicely healed!
Lessons & tips: -Take out your plugs once a day and clean them and clean your ears (the holes) with a soap-free rinse.
-Right after stretching, leave the taper in for at least 2 days before taking it out to clean it. It might seem gross but your ears will be pretty sore and putting them back in will literally be a pain.
-I know 1 year seems like ages, but seriously...you need to take it slow or you could rip your lobes and gets scars. And scars = very difficult stretching.
