How I did it: I read. A lot. By putting little scraps of time to good use. I read late at night after everyone was asleep and the house was dark and quiet. I read while soaking in the bathtub and on long car rides and even 30,000 feet in the air on a few plane trips. I checked out books like 1001 Books for Every Mood by Hallie Ephron and made long lists of titles that appealed to me. I have come to realize that there are far more books out there than I will ever be able to read in several lifetimes but I'm determined to get through as many good ones as I can.
Lessons & tips: If you're not a particularly fast reader, use audiobooks! Stories were passed down orally from generation to generation for much longer than they've existed in written form. Don't let the magic and wonder and wisdom of a good book escape you because you find reading too laborious. Listen to it instead!
