How to build my own racebike
"Creating something after your imagination and then being able to integrate it into your everyday life is clearly one of the most rewarding things."
How I did it:
I educated myself in the art of building bicycles and made sure I had a pretty clear idea of what parts I wanted to incorporate. That means, I had a picture of the bike in my mind before I even bought the first part. Then, I started collecting parts over a long time and waited for good offers to safe money. It was hard to stay patient at times, but it was worth it. When I had all the parts, I did go through all the steps before taking a tool in my hand. I made sure every part was in good condition and started putting everything together. Again, I had to be patient in order to get the best result - it was tempting to go on the bike and try it out before all settings were made properly. The first test ride put a smile on my face :)
Lessons & tips:
- be sure to have a vision before buying parts
- make sure you know enough about every step of the process, so you don't get frustrated when you have to stop, because you don't know how to go on or because you miss a tool
- do never get impatient or buy something else, than you planned for just because it is a good offer
- make sure all parts are in proper condition and clean before you start building
- enjoy working on your project, rather than only focusing on finishing it
- be sure you like the work itself
Resources:
- internet for information
- internet auctions and markets
- a good supplier for bike tools
